Rigging Technician

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Rigging Technician to join our team and contribute to the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of rigging systems for live events, performances, and productions. As a Rigging Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity and functionality of rigging equipment, ensuring the safety of performers, crew members, and audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the rigging team, technical director, and production crew to plan, set up, and operate rigging systems for various events, including concerts, theater productions, trade shows, and corporate presentations.
  • Safely install and inspect rigging equipment, including hoists, trusses, motors, chain systems, and safety devices, according to industry standards and regulations.
  • Calculate load capacities, weight distribution, and rigging points to ensure the safe suspension and movement of equipment, lighting fixtures, audio systems, and set pieces.
  • Coordinate with lighting designers, sound technicians, and other technical personnel to ensure that rigging systems align with the overall production design and requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of rigging equipment, identifying and addressing any wear, damage, or potential safety hazards.
  • Operate rigging controls and systems during rehearsals and live events, ensuring precise and smooth movement of equipment, set pieces, and props.
  • Monitor and adjust rigging systems as needed during performances, making real-time decisions to maintain safety and support the artistic vision.
  • Train and supervise crew members in proper rigging techniques, equipment handling, and safety procedures.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including proper rigging practices, fall protection, and emergency procedures.
  • Assist in load-ins and load-outs of equipment, ensuring that all rigging components are properly secured, transported, and stored.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, best practices, and safety regulations related to rigging and aerial performance.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Rigging Technician or similar role in theater, live events, or productions required.
  • Proficiency in rigging techniques, equipment setup, and load calculations, with a strong understanding of the physics and mechanics of rigging systems.
  • Familiarity with rigging hardware, tools, and safety devices, including shackles, slings, bridles, and safety lanyards.
  • Solid knowledge of fall protection, rescue procedures, and industry safety standards (ANSI, ETCP, OSHA) related to rigging.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot rigging issues and make adjustments quickly and effectively.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with crew members, performers, and technical directors.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work at heights, lift heavy objects, and handle physically demanding tasks.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.

Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training, certifications, or coursework in rigging, safety practices, or theater technology is an asset.

Compensation:

Hourly pay is $20-$40 per hour depending on experience.
