Stagehand / Roadie
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Stagehand to join our dynamic production team. As a stagehand, you will play a crucial role in the setup, operation, and teardown of stage equipment and props for live events, performances, and productions. Your attention to detail, teamwork, and ability to work efficiently under pressure will contribute to the seamless execution of memorable and engaging experiences for our audiences. You will also be given the opportunity to learn and advance within Upstage Productions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the stage manager, production crew, and performers to ensure smooth and timely setup, operation, and removal of stage equipment, props, and set pieces.
- Assist in the assembly and disassembly of stage elements, including backdrops, platforms, scaffolding, lighting fixtures, and audiovisual equipment, according to production specifications.
- Safely transport and arrange props, scenery, and set pieces on and off the stage during rehearsals and performances, following precise cues and instructions from the production team.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of stage equipment, ensuring that everything is in proper working condition and making minor repairs or adjustments as needed.
- Operate various tools and equipment, such as power drills, saws, rigging hardware, and manual lifting devices, while adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Assist with the installation and focusing of lighting fixtures, and help run cables and wiring as directed by the lighting designer or electrician.
- Provide support during costume changes, scene transitions, and any other backstage activities to ensure seamless flow and continuity of the production.
- Maintain a clean and organized backstage area, storage spaces, and workspaces, including the proper storage and care of costumes, props, and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with fellow stage crew members and follow directions from supervisors to ensure the safe and efficient execution of live performances.
- Participate in load-ins and load-outs of equipment, ensuring that all items are securely packed and stored after each event or production.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including proper lifting techniques, handling of hazardous materials, and emergency procedures.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a stagehand or similar role in theater, live events, or productions is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Basic knowledge of stage equipment, lighting, sound systems, and rigging principles is a plus.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects, move set pieces, and work in physically demanding environments.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse production team members.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow directions and cues accurately during live performances.
- Adaptability and the capacity to work efficiently in fast-paced and high-pressure situations.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Additional training or coursework in theater, performing arts, or technical production is a bonus.
Compensation:
Hourly pay is $20-$30 per hour depending on experience.
